Building codes typically require egress windows in basement bedrooms and sometimes in finished basement living areas. Requirements vary by jurisdiction; we ensure your installation meets local code.

Cost depends on foundation type, window size, and whether we need to install a new well or modify an existing one. The inspection is free, and you get a written number once we have looked at your specific situation.

The common code minimums are a net clear opening of 5.7 square feet, at least 24 inches high and 20 inches wide, with the sill no more than 44 inches above the floor. Your city's building department has the final word on what applies to your house, so the size is confirmed before the wall is cut.

When the window is below grade, yes. The well has to be big enough for a person to climb out, needs a permanently attached ladder or steps if it is deeper than 44 inches, and needs drainage at the bottom so water cannot pool against the new window.
